Composite bonding is a great way to quickly transform your smile through the skilful application of thin layers of resin material to the tooth’s surface. This painless and affordable treatment is used to correct minor imperfections such as cracks, chips, uneven teeth and stubborn discolouration.

Suppose you’ve been wanting to perfect your smile with composite bonding but are unsure what to expect. Luckily, we have put together a guide on how this process works from initial consultation to completed, beautiful new smile!

What to expect at your composite bonding appointment in Harlow

On your first consultation to discuss dental bonding, your Lister House dentist will examine the health of your teeth and gums and determine whether composite bonding is the appropriate course of treatment for you. They will listen to your concerns, what you most want to change about your teeth, and your overall smile goals. If the dentist agrees that composite bonding is the right choice for you, we will go ahead and book you in for the next appointment to complete the procedure.

On the day of your composite bonding treatment, you may feel slightly nervous but rest assured that this procedure is entirely safe and pain-free. Our surgeries are very light and comfortable, offering a relaxing atmosphere whilst your dentist creates your new smile!

During the preparation phase of your composite bonding treatment, your dentist will consult a shade guide to make sure that the resin material colour exactly matches the colour of your teeth. Some patients may have opted for teeth whitening treatment before composite bonding, in which case the bonding material will be matched to this brighter shade. Your dentist will gently roughen the surface of your teeth to receive the composite bonding material, after which they will apply a liquid condition fluid to help the material stick to the tooth’s surface.

After preparation, the putty-like resin will be applied directly onto the tooth and skilfully moulded to the desired size and shape. A bright light then cures and hardens the composite material into place. The dentist will trim and make any final adjustments to the resin before polishing to match the sheen of your natural teeth.
