If you’ve been told you require a root canal, it’s only natural that you might feel apprehensive. But for us, this procedure is a positive, minimally invasive, tooth saving treatment that only benefits our patients smiles! So, to alleviate any concerns you might have, we’re addressing the top FAQs we commonly hear about root canal treatment!

FAQ 1: What is a root canal?

Root canal treatment – also known as endodontic therapy – is a common dental procedure designed to save a severely infected or decayed tooth. During the procedure, your Lister House dentist will remove the infected or damaged pulp from inside the tooth, clean and disinfect the area, and then seal the tooth to prevent further infection.

FAQ 2: How do I know if I need a root canal?

The most common signs that you might need a root canal include severe tooth pain, increased sensitivity to hot or cold temperatures, and gum tenderness and swelling. If you’re experiencing any of these symptoms, we recommend getting in touch with our friendly team so we can assess the issue and help you find relief with our affordable treatment range.

“Everything was clearly explained to me, from why the tooth was hurting to why I needed a root canal. Cost of treatment was very clearly explained and reasonable by private clinic standards. After a painless experience the pain actually went away, putting me out of days of misery. 11/10 would travel over 2 hours to this dentist again!”

FAQ 3: Is root canal treatment painful?

No! Contrary to popular belief, root canal treatment is not typically painful. Our special-interest endodontic dentists use modern techniques and local anaesthesia for a pain-free experience. Most of our root canal patients report feeling little to no discomfort at all during the procedure!  And, in fact, root canal treatment is often performed to alleviate pain caused by tooth infection or damage rather than add to it!

FAQ 4: How long does a root canal take?

The length of root canal treatment at Lister House will vary depending on the complexity of the case. But, in general, a typical root canal procedure can be completed in one to two appointments, with each appointment lasting about 60 minutes.

“Got appointment in a very short time. Kind and professional service. They saved my tooth, looks perfect, and free from any pain. I am thankful for them and satisfied.”

FAQ 5: What are the benefits of having root canal treatment?

There are many benefits of root canal treatment including pain relief, preservation of the natural tooth, prevention of further infection and restoration of function. By saving the tooth via root canal, you won’t require an extraction and so can maintain your smile’s integrity!

FAQ 6: How long does recovery take after having a root canal?

Root canal recovery is typically quick and relatively painless though you may experience some discomfort and sensitivity immediately following the procedure. However, this can usually be managed with over-the-counter pain medication. Most patients can resume normal activities immediately after treatment!
